File Access on the IAC Stats Server

Accessing files using network storage

Faculty or students are encouraged to use their network home directories to access files while using the stats server. Faculty should use their home directory on the IAC file server, and students should use their PRISM drive.

Upon logging in, each user should see desktop shortcuts to available network locations. These shortcuts are created automatically upon logging in.

Desktop shortcuts for students Desktop Shortcuts for employees

  • gt-student’s Prism Drive: This shortcut will open your PRISM storage directory, which includes a 2GB quota. All students should have a PRISM directory.
  • Network Drive iac-user: This shortcut will open your home directory on the IAC file server. All employees have a network home directory on the IAC file server.
  • Network Drive iac-common: This shortcut will open a public directory readable and writable by all employees or students of Ivan Allen College.
  • Network Drive iac-dean-common: This shortcut will open a public directory readable and writable by all employees or students within a particular school or department in Ivan Allen College (in the example above, the IAC Dean’s Office).

NOTE: If you are both a student and an employee (e.g., a research assistant), or if you are a faculty member who has requested PRISM access, you may see links to both your PRISM drive and your IAC network home directory.

Accessing files on local drives (USB drives or hard drives)

In order to access a local drive or device (e.g., printer) from the stats server, you must enable the drive or device in the Remote Desktop Connection settings. After connecting to the VPN using method #1 as described on the main stats server how-to page, open the Remote Desktop Connection client; on Windows computers, this program is located under the Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories. Once the program has opened, click the “Options >>” button in the bottom right, and select the “Local Resources” tab.

To enable printing to a local printer from the stats server, place a check box next to the “Printers” option. In order to access a local drive, click the “More…” button.

Place a check mark beside all devices you wish to have access to on the stats server.
